Nissan refund policy in Australia

Short answer

We couldn’t find a refund or change-of-mind return policy for Nissan cars. Nissan publishes a five-year unlimited kilometre warranty that can be extended a year at a time, up to 10 years or 300,000 km, by servicing at Nissan, and says its goods come with guarantees under the Australian Consumer Law that can’t be excluded.

What Nissan publishes

Nissan’s warranty sits under its Nissan MORE program. According to Nissan’s warranty page

  • for the first five years, a new Nissan has a five-year unlimited kilometre warranty and one year of unlimited kilometre roadside assistance
  • after that, each scheduled service done at Nissan adds a year of warranty and a year of roadside assistance, up to 10 years or 300,000 km
  • for the extra years to apply, logbook services have to be done in Nissan’s authorised dealer network, on schedule or within 60 days or 3,000 km of it
  • if the car isn’t serviced at Nissan, extra years aren’t added and cover stays at five years with unlimited kilometres

Terms, conditions and exclusions apply to both the standard and the service-activated warranty, and Nissan publishes them in full.

Does Nissan have a refund policy?

Not one we could find. Nissan’s published material is about the warranty and servicing, not taking cars back for a change of mind. For a car with a fault, whether a refund may be on the table is a question for the consumer guarantees, covered in can I get a refund on a car.

What Nissan says about the consumer guarantees

Nissan’s warranty page carries the standard statement that its goods come with guarantees that can’t be excluded under the Australian Consumer Law. Those guarantees don’t depend on where the car was serviced, and they can apply after the warranty ends, as out of warranty, still have rights? explains.

Raising a concern with Nissan

We didn’t find a published customer charter for Nissan. Nissan points owners to their dealer, and it has a contact page for questions that need to go to Nissan directly.

Questions people also ask

Is the Nissan warranty really 10 years?

Up to 10 years or 300,000 km, according to Nissan. The first five years are standard. After that, each scheduled service done at Nissan adds a year, so the full 10 years depends on servicing at Nissan throughout.

What happens to the Nissan warranty if I service elsewhere?

Nissan’s page says that if the car isn’t serviced at Nissan, or stops being serviced there, extra years aren’t added and the cover stays at five years with unlimited kilometres.

Can I return a Nissan to the dealership?

Not because you’ve changed your mind, as far as we could find. If the car has a fault the consumer guarantees cover, a return may be one of the options, depending on how serious it is.

Is my Nissan covered after the warranty ends?

It may be. The consumer guarantees sit alongside the warranty and can apply after it ends, depending on the fault, the car’s age and how it’s been used.
